Thermal oxidation:

The Application
Thermal oxidation is a proven technology that has been used in various off-gas treatment systems for many years. The combustion aspect can be designed specifically for any pollutant mix. In this way a reliable and efficient treatment process is available to our clients which allows easy fulfilment of regulatory requirements.

Thermal oxidation is typically used in the treatment of off-gases from:
  • Drying processes
  • Painting / Spraying lines
  • Chemical production processes
  • Coating units
  • Food industry
  • Soil remediation
  • and many others
The main advantages of thermal oxidation are:
  • Safe compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Low investment costs
  • Robust construction
  • Long life-times
  • Proven technology
  • Universally applicable
This technology is, because of its robust nature, able to be used in gas streams containing complexes or catalyst poisons (e.g. silica-organic compounds).

Process principle Flow sheet
The air to be treated is sucked into the unit using a blower and guided over a heat-exchanger to pre-heat it. It is brought to reaction temperature by either a fishtail or conical burner and then oxidised in the reactor.
The oxidation happens in a specially designed reactor at temperatures between 700°C and
1100°C. Because of the high temperatures the materials from which the unit is produced must be selected very carefully. For the reaction chamber, only high-temperature resistant stainless steels are used. Residence time in the reactor is between 0.5 and 1.5 seconds. After the heat from the cleaned gas exiting the reactor is used to pre-heat the gas entering the unit, it is vented to atmosphere.
